Next stop – different style

After two wonderfully relaxing days with Adrienne and Keith I was off to the next stop which promised to be a bit of an adventure. And so it is! But one after the other.

First I visited a really big car museum with many great vintage cars. After leaving there I ended up in – you won’t believe it – a traffic jam! I would never have thought that something like this can happen over here. Thankfully it wasn’t too long, just around 20 minutes.

After that the road went along quite flat countryside with mainly farmland. Still it was beautiful in the sunshine. Coming up towards Manghanui the landscape changed with soft hills and rivers. And right above one of these rivers I found my accommodation. It is quite tricky to get here. The directions were very detailed. One full page 🤔 And really after almost thinking that I am lost, I found it. You have to park the car after driving down a really steep drive. Then get everything out that you will need and go to the cable car stop. Yes, it is a cable car that took me across the river below. You ring a gong so they know you are there then you enter the cable car and with a radio you let them know you are ready. Officially it takes two adults with their luggage. I still wasn’t so sure about my suitcase….. But it worked. Mid way looking down I realised that it was indeed quite deep below me….. so looking straight ahead was much better 😊

The accomodation couldn’t be in more contrast to the one before. Instead of a wonderful room with big bathroom and luxury shower I now have a tent, an old gipsy caravan converted to a kitchen and next to it a self built hut with compost toilet and shower. Three nights…. Well, we will see. The adjoining campsite and two further ‘cottages’ are occupied, too. So at least I won’t get lonely 😉

Tomorrow I am off to explore the area, if I dare use the cable car again….

    Hi Maike,
After having googled your second accommodation I could just about imagine you swinging precariously across a river in that cable car! Which brings me to my next question: Is there any earthly reason why you write in English?
    Mum
